Sophie - Climate Change Officer

What qualifications and career steps helped you become a Climate Change Officer at Rushmoor?

There were no specific qualifications required as I began my journey at Rushmoor as a Climate Change Apprentice. However, I did go to college and complete my A-Levels. My apprenticeship with Rushmoor has given me a Level 4 Project Management qualification which has helped me in the next step of my career in becoming Climate Change Officer.

Can you describe the type of projects you are involved in as a Climate Change Officer and how they contribute to the council's climate change goals?

Every day is different. To help the council to reach their climate change targets, I am involved in multiple projects. A couple of examples of these include calculating the council's carbon footprint and the climate change tracker scheme alongside local schools. To help with the ongoing development of the climate change action plan I occasionally attend meetings with councillors to discuss the goals we are looking to reach, such as being carbon neutral by 2030!

What do you enjoy most about your role as a Climate Change Officer and the working environment at the council?

I really enjoy that every day varies and being involved in climate change work makes my role very rewarding. Working with like-minded people helps me to stay motivated to carry out work that I am very passionate about. Overall, not just in my team, the council has a great working environment and supportive culture.

Qualifications in wildlife biology and conservation management gave me an interest in the role!
